Let’s Do Dinner: Cape Dutch in Atlanta
In a past blog post, we shared one of local restauranteur Justin Anthony’s ventures—10 Degrees South in Buckhead—and we’re thrilled to share another this week with Atlanta’s Cape Dutch. This culinary favorite features Anthony’s signature South African flair and globally inspired entrees and yet caters to a wider audience with various seafood dishes, steak, and vegetarian options.
Located at 1782 Cheshire Bridge Road NE, in the old Woodfire Grill space, Cape Dutch boasts a bright and sophisticated interior with a menu highlighting the South African braai— or a grill. A self-proclaimed modern South African steakhouse, on the menu you will find small plates to start, a la carte steak cuts, and go-to staples off the braai like branzino, whole Maine lobster, and the braai burger. Each dish draws attention with Anthony’s signature worldly flair and Chef Philippe Haddad’s Belgian touch.
The restaurant first opened its doors in 2015 and today, reviews commonly include the phrase, “best I’ve ever had.” What’s more, the decor inside Cape Dutch feels as though patrons are transported to a far off destination, with oversized leather sofas, wood chairs surrounding white linen cocktail tables, open-faced grill at the center of the space and elegant glass lighting— all reminiscent of South African wine country.
Located in Atlanta’s Morningside neighborhood, Cape Dutch has revitalized the area with its upscale dining. Morningside/Lenox Park is found just east of Ansley Park and west of Druid Hills and has been named one of Atlanta’s most walkable neighborhoods. The homes in the area, typically built between 1918 and 1935, boast character galore and idyllic tree lined streets are the norm. Cape Dutch is the perfect addition!
It is truly a treat to enjoy time with friends here with the decor and buildout as interesting and inviting as it is! It is nothing like it was before, bringing a sort of freshness both to the neighborhood and the space. Much like Yebo, its open floor plan and use of reclaimed wood adds a trendy yet upscale feel. All the better to enjoy a spectacular meal (the lamb rack is to die for!) and beautiful aperitif (a glass of Hall Napa Cab is nice)! Bon appetit! Or should we say smaaklike ete as the South Africans might say?
Cape Dutch is open Tuesday and Wednesday from 5 PM to 11 PM and Thursday through Saturday from 5 PM to 12 AM. The restaurant also offers private event and dining options, in their bar and lounge areas, upstairs lounge, private dining room and patio.
